Alpine Beer on St. Patrick’s Day
It’s always fun to celebrate a drinking holiday with a good beer or two. So why not release a couple of beers just for the occasion? No, they are not green, but they are as diverse as they are delicious. We’ll get to our St. Patrick’s Day menu after I tell you about the coming attractions.
The return of “Bad Boy,” our ‘other’ double IPA, happens this Thursday as soon as our doors open. It’s NOT bottled but we will be filling growlers at the brewery and glasses at the pub. This beer, created by Shawn, uses hops that weren’t around when Pure Hoppiness was invented. That’s one of the reasons it has such a huge hop presence. We also use predominately Premium British ‘Maris Otter’ barley which enriches the flavor and deepens the body. Be careful at 9.25% abv
The beginning of Spring marks the time to bottle all that beer you lagered over the winter. We have just such a beer, and it’s called “Emerson.” This beer is an Imperial Pilsner made with Weyermann Pilsner malt and features New Zealand hops throughout. We used Pacific Jade, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka and Riwaka hops, all from the beautiful island nation of New Zealand. Some are just fun to say. This lager was first made as a tribute to the maker of the best beer we tasted in our visit to NZ. Richard Emerson runs a brewery down there that makes some mighty tasty beers and his pilsner is awesome. So, with his permission we brewed our version, a little stronger, to honor his beer and him. It is 6% abv and has a big hop aroma from our dry-hopping session and it has the classic “lager” taste. We’ll have it on draught for growlers and pints. We will have bottles in the future but don’t have labels yet.
Time to dust off those green clothes you save for St. Patrick’s Day and wear them to our pub for some Smoked Corned Beef and Cabbage. We’ll be serving up some Captain Stout on Nitro, like Guinness, and we’ll tap a pin (small cask) of Pure Hoppiness and serve it from our beer engine. Look for special beer throughout the day and possibly into the weekend.
